How to Screenshot the video on your cell phone!

I picked up a Nikon digital camera in 2010 and began taking pictures of everything that moved and didn't move.  I have taken so many images that I use multiple hard drives to store images.  Do you know how many images you have to take to start using a second hard drive?  Trillions!!!  But along the way I also became proficient at using my cell phone to capture awesome images and even some amazing videos.  

When I shoot video, I have an opportunity to capture some of the funny real time moments that occur during conversations just before the moment I belt "say cheese!" and also just afterwards.

Additionally, when I shoot video, I have the opportunity to scan the video looking for the perfect photo where everyone's eyes are open and all the smiles look just right.  When I have only a few people in my group, it is not very hard to get a decent picture; however, the larger the group, the more difficult it can become to get everyone on the same page.

In the following video scene, I could have easily opted to have the waiter or another tourist take a picture of us smiling after having eaten an awesome lobster meal. Or I could have opted to take a picture of my sister and mom as they sat together and it would have been remembered as one of the best birthdays my mom ever had. Those kinds of images are fantastic but what if you could capture both the feeling of the moment in video then screen capture an image to print and add to the family photo album? Positives:

• * With shooting the video, I did not have to be concerned about having blurry pictures due to poor lighting conditions.
• * I don't have to prompt anyone with the proverbial "say cheese!".
• * I don't have to take as much time ensuring that I have framed the scene correctly for my image.

Additional positive that you do not even consider! Whenever you hand your cellphone to a stranger and ask them to take pictures you do not know if that person is actually going to take a good picture or not and you also have to take a moment to make sure that the stranger knows which buttons to push on your camera. When shooting video, you just hand over the phone and say hold that steady for a moment and I will prompt everyone of what to do. Then once you have the moment, you can get your camera back with a fantastic video which you can then use to select the image that you like. The only negative to this situation occurs if you do not have any storage space on your cell phone to obtain video. In this case, it is best to take photos.

Here is how to screenshot video using two of the most popular cell phone devices.

Apple Iphone or iPod Touch

1. Select the video that you are interested in
2. scrub to the image that you like
3. press and hold the sleep/wake button and then click the Home button.

Your image should then become available in your photo gallery folder.

Samsung Galaxy

1. Get the screen that you want to capture ready to go
2. Simultaneously press the power button and the home button

You'll now be able to see the screenshot in the Gallery app, or in Samsung's built-in "My Files" file browser.
